BOLIVAR, Mo. â The ±«Óătv Concert Choir and the Bolivar Community Choir will be joined by the Ozark High School Varsity Singers as they present âFor a Breath of Ecstasyâ by Michael John Trotta at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Pike Auditorium on the Bolivar campus.
âFor a Breath of Ecstasyâ is a collection of poems by Sara Teasdale and is scored
for SATB Chorus, oboe and string quartet. However, a small orchestra of string players
will perform, instead of the originally scored string quartet, due to the large number
of singers in the combined choirs.
The Bolivar and ±«Óătv choirs will then perform âGospel Massâ by Robert Ray. âGospel
Massâ is an English setting of the traditional Latin Mass including all six traditional
movements including: âKyrie,â âGloria,â âCredo,â âAcclamation,â âSanctusâ and âAgnus
Dei.â
âIâm very excited about the opportunity to provide an audience with two very different
works and subject matters,â said Dr. Andrew Campbell, associate professor of music.
ââFor a Breath of Ecstasyâ draws from texts that speak heavily of love. Sara Teasdaleâs
texts are quite moving and the musical setting of Trotta compliments her beautiful
work. The energy and excitement of the âGospel Massâ will move you to want to stand
up and make a joyful noise.â
The concert is free and open to the public.
