±«Óătv presents Wehmeyer in faculty recital on euphonium tonight

Dr. Terri WehmeyerBOLIVAR, Mo. – The ±«Óătv Division of Arts and Humanities presents Dr. Terri Wehmeyer, on euphonium, in a faculty recital tonight (Sept. 22) at 7:30 in the Jane A. Meyer Recital Hall. Room 104 will be available for overflow with livestreaming, as social distancing will be practiced in both locations, and face masks required.

The recital features several collaborative works highlighting the vast talent of the ±«Óătv music program’s alumni and faculty. The first work is a duet for euphonium and trombone by Baroque composer Georg Philipp Telemann and includes Cameron Collins, a 2020 ±«Óătv alumnus, on trombone. The second piece “Less Word But Soul” by Polish composer Tadeusz Kassatti, is a modern work written for the unusual combination of euphonium, alto saxophone, and piano. Besides Wehmeyer, Dr. Robert Carney is featured on piano and Dr. Jeffery Waters on alto saxophone.

“Overall, the piece is more a study of interactive ideas among the three performers presented in an expressive, emotional setting,” Wehmeyer said.

The following work showcases another unique combination – soprano, euphonium and piano. It will be the stage premier of the newest music faculty member, Dr. Sarah Howes, soprano, who is in her second year of teaching at ±«Óătv. Dr. Melinda Jones, piano, will complete the ensemble. The piece, titled “Four Songs,” presents music composed by AndrĂ© Previn based on poems by Toni Morrison.

The program concludes with two works for solo euphonium and piano, which again will showcase Wehmeyer and Jones. The first is a lyrical piece by Romantic-era composer Franz Strauss titled “Noctomo Op. 7,” which will be followed by Arthur Pryor’s “Starlight (Waltz Caprice.)”
